While roaming the northern part of the state my wife and I wandered into an antique shop looking for old stuff my wife collects. Instead, sitting on the top shelf of a rotating cabinet my eye caught sight of this beauty. Oddly enough, I have never had any interest in owning this particular item but seeing it just sitting there I knew I'd kick myself later if I didn't pick it up. Not to mention it was undervalued (at least after a quick internet search gave me that impression). It's a fun little bit of memorabilia from that golden age of heroes.

Oh, man... I would LOVE to have gotten this back in the day
Stationery and stamp? How awesome would this be as a kid? Who am I kidding, how awesome right now in my <ahem> mid 50's. Gotta make my own now. Not the same as getting this in the mail, though. Alas, ya takes whatcha can git.

Shadows Will Go - Give them a Show!
Not sure what that tagline means but it's a great image and one that I'd love in my collection. Alas, my collection is very much limited to reproductions. Perhaps I'll just make this one to add to my facsimiles.

What a surprise and a joy to get this in the mail from John Olsen, The Shadow and pulp superfan. He just comes up with the best stuff.

Wish I had gotten one of these in the mail
How cool would this have been back in the day (or even today) to receive a note on this letterhead?! Have to admit, though... never liked the "official" signature of The Shadow. Oh well, can't have it all.

Would love to have gotten this in the mail
Even today this would be a thrill to arrive in the mailbox. Found this on FB as part of Dwight Fuhro's wondrous collection of memorabilia pertaining to The Shadow. Fantastic.

Look what I found in my postbox
So excited to have this as part of my collection. Love the card back that it is attached to and I think Catt Call did a really excellent job of reproducing this. This kind of thing just makes me happy.

Magic Button
Kinda obvious if this is for a secret society...
I'm guessing this is how the agent received his "secret" membership creds. Ah, what a time to be a kid...

Merry Christmas to me
I got my annual Christmas card from pulp super fan John Olsen. This year it's a glow in the dark postcard and I keep giggling like a kid as I expose the "blank" side to some light and then turn out lights to see the logo appear. Thanks, John, I appreciate the unique Christmas gifts each year. Very cool.

More Premiums

The little nickel pin of The Shadow Club is one of the holy grails of the Shadowphile. The "magic" pin (I'm guessing it glowed in the dark) for The Secret Society of the Shadow is a new one to me but I really love the creed written on the board. A bit cheesy but for the time and the age group it was aimed at it must have been just the ticket for a young boy full of desire to make the world a better place. I know it still calls to me.

Premiums

I love the premiums and advertising that were linked to The Shadow. Blue Coal had some nice ones. There were lots of ads for the local broadcasts of the radio program. Everyone seemed to want to jump on the bandwagon and it really made the experience so much more fun. When the new movie comes out I hope there are some more adult (as in serious) ancillary items that go beyond cereal incentives and action figures. Perhaps reinstating The Shadow Club, or more to the point, The National Protective League. Yeah, I know, not relevant to the world today. At least that's how many people feel. I would argue that it is more relevant now than ever before. But that's another issue. As to the premiums I would hope that some of the replica companies would be interested in recreating items like the ring, the slouch hat and the cloak. Even the guns would be great, circa 1929. An autogyro model would be incredible as well. Sigh, I'll quit geeking out now. Regarding the two pins I've posted, the simplicity harkens to a less complicated time, when we didn't need that much to really make ourselves happy.
