The Shadow Comics ran its very, very abridged adaptation of the famous pulp tale in April of 1946.

  All of my online searching has come up with a big goose egg on finding a recording of this episode.  My usual sources both have the November 17, 1940 episode slotted into this date.  The funny thing is, I am fairly certain that I've heard this one before, judging by the synopsis.  The listing of episodes says this tale has been preserved so I'm a bit confused as to why it's not showing up on the all knowing interweb.  I'll run through my episodes at home and see what I can find.

 Sure, it's Myrna Loy from "The Mask of Fu Manchu" but it really seems like it could be Myra Reldon aka Ming Dwan realized from the pages of The Shadow Magazine.  Myra... Myrna... coincidence?

 "The Mardi Gras Mystery" was originally submitted as "Crime Trails the Mardi Gras".  I think I like the title Gibson gave it but that will have no effect on whether I enjoy this one or not.

ON THE AIR: February 6, 1938

THE PHANTOM VOICE!  I probably hoped that this was a crossover with The Phantom the first time I listened to this.  However, as cool as that would have been this is a great episode with a, for it's time, hi-tech hook.  If you haven't heard this one before then sit back with a tall glass of iced tea and a bowl of mixed nuts and take a trip back in time with this classic Welles adventure.

Kaluta does The Shadow

Love this image.  Would make a great t-shirt design.  I wish the book "Hitler's Astrologer" was better, though.  Nothing against Russ Heath but I don't think his inks were a good fit for M W Kaluta's pencils.  Wrightson would have been a dream inker, in my opinion.  Still, at least it was classic era Shadow.

This is a really nice image.  Sure, the hat's not right and everyone should know by now that I hate the scarf.  However the eyes that look like burning coals is pure Gibson pulp goodness and the style feels like modern pulp illustration.

C'mon, of course you've heard this one.  This is a classic.  The villain actually injures our hero in this one.  There is a chase and ultimate vengeance.  There is deduction and terror and peril and... well, you know, the typical stuff that makes these radio shows such a blast to listen to.  So why not spend half an hour with Orson, Agnes and a crazed madman and enjoy a moment in time.  Just don't drink the water.

As The Shadow investigates a fake passport racket, it leads him to the mausoleum where the helpless prisoner is being kept.'
