The answers to The Silent Death are...

"Agent J reports: 3 radio knobs, Shadow's ring, needle on dial, extra coil on left wire, Shadow's hat brim."

Five for five!  Well done, Agent J.  I'll have to get sneakier on Friday's edition.  Love the cover, btw.  Felt kinda bad messin' with it.

Issue #78 of What's The Difference

I took a week off so it's back to business as usual.  There are anywhere between 1 and 10 changes to this cover.  Good luck, agents.

Something fun

I ran across this in an antique store last week.  After doing a bit of research I found out this band is still playing after 50 years.  I haven't listened to it yet but will probably put it on the turntable this weekend while I try and finish my newest "homage" painting.

Revisiting an absolute favorite of mine

Not only a classic cover but this is one of the great early adventures. I've read this one a few times and it gets better each time.  Probably because as I get older I long for simpler things, adventure for adventure's sake.  A good mystery and just some fun while reading.  Probably why I like Clive Cussler's stories, of which I am currently reading his prequel to "Raise the Titanic".  Anyhow, I just wanted to share this cover with everyone, it's a good'un!

A little study I did

About a year ago I did a real quick oil study on some poor board.  Nothing to write home about, for sure.  Last week I dug it out and thought I'd give it a real shot.  This is the result.  I've been having problems photographing this one since I put a high gloss finish on it to fix a problem so I scanned it.  Not a great solution but I'll keep trying and if I get a better image I'll repost.  By the way this is from "House of Silence".

We'll resume the normal activities of The Sanctum tomorrow

Took a break and ran around my state last week.  Time to get back to it, though.

And the answers are...

"Agent J reports: Small circle by the S in Shadow, The Shadow's ring, tear in lower right of paper, extra notches on the pagoda (now have 4 instead of 3). That's all I can find!"

Missed the "Mystery of the Missing Hammer".  I should've removed the smoke since the smokewagon would never have been able to fire, but that would've made it too easy.  There will be another installment tomorrow.  Thanks for playing.

The Shadow's ride

1931 Peerless Master 8.  What do you think, would The Shadow run down villains in this gorgeous automobile?

An alternate idea of The Shadow

I don't care for the representation of The Shadow (looks like a pimp) but I like the design and technique used.  Hate the masthead and the use of pink.  Would love to see this done with more attention paid to how our hero has been portrayed by Rozen or even Gladney.  Still, it probably was an introduction to a new generation of fans when it hit the bookstands.

Star Trek Day +2

A little sketch I did to celebrate another obsession of mine, Star Trek (the Original Series, of course) on the 53rd anniversary of its premier.  This is the early version of Mr. Spock from the first pilot episode, The Cage.  It may not be The Shadow but I'm sure The Dark Eagle would appreciate the logical nature of this character.

Murder House revealed

"Agent J reports: souse, grime, mark above the 31, 3 is now an 8 (near 26), Shadow's hat brim (back side), red part of cape on Shadow's left shoulder (above his hand). That's all I can find!"

Perfect, Agent J.   I must try harder next time.

Now, back to our regularly scheduled programme

However, it's not going to be business as usual.  This time I'm not telling how many changes have been made.  Hahahahahahahahahahahahahaha.  Good luck, agents.  Have a great weekend.

John Wick... a modern day Shadow

Just a sketch I was doodling in my sketchbook last night.  I love this character even if he is way more violent than Gibson's hero.  But if you go by Dynamite's standard, he's a damn sight more sane.

What I finished and now what I'm reading

The second part of the John Sunlight saga was less than satisfying.  The villain didn't make an appearance until the last 6 or so pages.  Odd.  I've been hard on the stories that I've read so far.  I don't want to offend anyone, that's for sure, because I really, truly, want to like these adventures.  The concept of Doc is very appealing to me and I even like the idea of his "team".  It's the writing that I just can't get past.  It's apparent that the target audience was about 12 years of age and of a certain mindset.  If I had read these as a 12 year old I probably would've loved 'em.  I'm, well, older than that and need something more.  No one will say that The Shadow adventures are high literature but they are written well enough to entertain and intrigue even at my advanced age.
I will always love the idea of Doc, just not Lester Dent's writing.  I'll say this, however.  Will Murray has done a bang up job with the continuing adventures.  I've read the two tales with The Shadow and really enjoy his take (although I still can't get into the Fabulous Five).

What am I reading now?  Just started this one...

I'll let you know what I think when I finish this one.

The Hidden Death revealed!

"Agent J reports: &, 1923, Hidden, cord for the shade, black dot on the H in monthly (I'm not sure if that counts!). That' all I can find!"

The accidental erasure in the H does not count but thanks for pointing out my mistake.  The last change to the cover the left shoulder of The Shadow's cloak.  However, I have to give you credit for 5 and declare you this weeks winner.
