What I finished and now what I'm reading

The second part of the John Sunlight saga was less than satisfying.  The villain didn't make an appearance until the last 6 or so pages.  Odd.  I've been hard on the stories that I've read so far.  I don't want to offend anyone, that's for sure, because I really, truly, want to like these adventures.  The concept of Doc is very appealing to me and I even like the idea of his "team".  It's the writing that I just can't get past.  It's apparent that the target audience was about 12 years of age and of a certain mindset.  If I had read these as a 12 year old I probably would've loved 'em.  I'm, well, older than that and need something more.  No one will say that The Shadow adventures are high literature but they are written well enough to entertain and intrigue even at my advanced age.
I will always love the idea of Doc, just not Lester Dent's writing.  I'll say this, however.  Will Murray has done a bang up job with the continuing adventures.  I've read the two tales with The Shadow and really enjoy his take (although I still can't get into the Fabulous Five).

What am I reading now?  Just started this one...

I'll let you know what I think when I finish this one.

  1. It reminds me of the 1970's Doc Savage movie with Ron Ely - I really wanted to like it but just couldn't!
