The Shadow coloring book in 66 parts: Part 40

Wait... is that The Green Hornet?  Probably not but that doesn't mean you can't color him that way.

Avenger Saturday presents: "Justice, Inc." paperback

Okay, let's start the paperback run of The Avenger.  I love this cover.  Is it as cool as the original pulp cover?  In its own way, yes.  Simple but beautifully painted.

ON THE AIR: December 19, 1943

Four prominent pillars of the community commit murders and then can't remember doing so.  They all belong to... well, just listen to "Club of Doom" to find out what The Shadow gets embroiled in this time.

ON THE AIR: December 5, 1943

Money.  Family.  A deadly addition to the grounds of a spooky old mansion.  Insanity.  Family.  Yep, just another day in the lives of Lamont and Margot.  And it takes The Shadow to save the day (or night, as it were.)  Sit back in your favorite easy chair and listen to "Bubbling Death" and remember, your family could be as bad as this one...

Avenger Saturday presents: "Midnight Murder"

And this brings us to the end of the original pulp run of "The Avenger".  An action cover for sure, but not an iconic image that sets this apart from any other pulp mag on the stands.

I may run the paperback covers next.  They were great and I always have regretted not picking them up back in the day.  They owe more to James Bama's Doc Savage covers than to the original pulp art.  Still, nice work that should be seen and appreciated.

Evil psychics.  East Indian mystics.  Yep, it's another mystery that embroils Lamont, Margot and The Shadow.  Sit back, kick up your feet and down your favorite drink while you listen to "The Crystal Globe".

Avenger Saturday presents: "The Wilder Curse"

This is a wonderful composition, full of tension and subdued action.  Nice use of local color and the drawing is really strong.  Again the Art Director overlaid the logo which creates even greater sense of space.  Not a classic cover but a really well done illustration.

ON THE AIR: September 26, 1943

Bret Morrison makes his debut alongside Marjorie Anderson in "The Gibbering Things".  A fairly horrific tale to usher in the first season of Anderson's.  He leaves the program for a little more than a season before returning in Season 9, following John Archer and Steve Courtleigh's turns as The Shadow.  Enjoy this scary little tale and the introduction of Morrison.
