The first time Batman meets The Shadow?

Seems someone was very influenced by The Shadow for this splash page.  Can't say what happens but I loved this little "homage".

Stardate: November 27, 1964

56 years ago today the first scenes of "The Cage" started filming.  This was the introduction of the Starship Enterprise and her crew to all of humanity.  I dare say the world has never been the same.  The captain may not have been James T. Kirk (or even James R. Kirk) but "The Cage" was great Star Trek and great science fiction.  It ranks as one of my all time favorite episodes and I sometimes wonder what if the show had been picked up as first presented.  Captain Pike, Number One and Mr. Spock.  That version truly was boldly going where no man had gone before.

Fountain of Death!  Another fantastical tale of The Shadow that carried over the airwaves 82 years ago.  Medical science gone amok!  Evil doers from an unnamed nation who want the formula for themselves!  Will The Shadow prevail?!  I guess you'll just have to hunker down in front of your speakers while finishing off that last bit of pumpkin pie.  Enjoy this tale from yesteryear and have a great holiday weekend.

HAPPY THANKSGIVING

No matter where you fall in the political spectrum (since everything seems to be viewed through a political filter these days) I think we can all agree that seeing an end to this health crisis and a possible healing in our government (no promises) is truly worth being thankful for.  So, take a cue from The Shadow and his merry band of agents and  MASK UP & STAY SAFE.

Oh, man... I would LOVE to have gotten this back in the day

Stationery and stamp?  How awesome would this be as a kid?  Who am I kidding, how awesome right now in my <ahem> mid 50's.  Gotta make my own now.  Not the same as getting this in the mail, though.  Alas, ya takes whatcha can git.

Miles Crofton said it

"When I woke up I was in that box and The Shadow was looking in on me. Black cloak— slouch hat—all I could see was eyes. He talked to me and I listened. He knew everything, that guy. Said he was sending me to Joe Cardona. Told me if I talked, I'd come out all right. He'd do the rest in a pinch. Well, here I am."

Miles Crofton, "The Unseen Killer" December,1934

Who is Miles Crofton?  He is a war hero, a soldier-of-fortune and an aviator. In "The Unseen Killer" he became entangled in a villain's scheme where he was double-crossed and framed for murder. The Shadow ultimately saved the day and, as was the pattern, Miles was made an agent and became The Shadow's relief pilot.

Death is Blind!  Just like Justice!  Well, maybe not exactly like Justice.  But you can be sure that by the end of this episode Justice was served and we all know who served it!  Enjoy!

We interrupt our regularly scheduled artist to bring you a tale by two different pencillers, Rick Magyar & Frank Springer.  Enjoy.

What I'm reading now

Taking a break from The Shadow to indulge in the latest "Clive Cussler" adventure.  Why parenthesis?  Clive died earlier this year and his books have been ghost written for quite some time now so I don't know how much Cussler there really is in these latest tales.  Still, I enjoy these characters and it seems that the various series have been left in good hands.  Not sure how much longer they will be coming out but I will always pick up the latest and lose myself in a pretty good adventure yarn where the hero always comes out on the winning end.

What I'm reading now

John's latest adapted radio scripts.  This is something I look forward every year.  10 lost tales presented as short stories for fans of The Shadow to lose themselves in.  Thanks, John.  Great stuff as always.

Thank a Vet today

My father and grandfather were Army.  My uncle served in the Air Force.  Our daughter was a Navy nurse.  These and too many to count over the years helped secure our freedoms so that all Americans can enjoy life in the greatest country in the world.  If you see a Veteran today (or any day, for that matter) tell them a sincere "Thank You".  We owe so much to every one of them.

Since the title was clearly visible I'm sure this is no surprise to anyone checking out this puzzle.

Shyster Payoff.  Great title for a so so episode.  I wonder how well this was received 82 years ago.  I think sometimes I judge things based on the quality of today's production values and story telling and forget how much simpler things were back in the day.  Take a listen for yourself.

What I'm reading now

This is a really great adventure so far.  With The Shadow already in the clutches of the villain when the story begins it makes for a tense tale.  A little over half done with it now and really looking forward to how this all turns out.  Of course good will triumph over evil but the way Gibson does it is always a treat.
