What do I do with 4 days off?

Read, of course.  Saturday was "Shadowed Millions", the first Pyramid paperback reprint I ever bought (second novel after Bantam's reprint of  "The Living Shadow" which I found in a second hand store in Libby, Montana).  Sunday was "The Creeping Death" and today I am about halfway through "Fingers of Death".  I haven't been able to binge read The Shadow since I was a kid.  Would love to have a couple of months to myself so that I could sort of catch up with all of the reprints.

No guesses? The quote belongs to...

The Ghost Makers.  The 16th published adventure of The Shadow, this was a really fun tale that I have, in fact, read a couple of times.  If you haven't and you want a preview then check out this review.

No guesses? Let's fill in the blank then

"Tonight, your evil design was thwarted. Thomas Telford, the man you sought to kill, did not swallow that poisoned drink. I warned him, and he is safe. He stopped on the brink of death. He will be at the seance tonight. You will not be with him. Death will come to you, Martin Slade! Death that you cannot escape."

Okay, I filled in the clews so now your job, should you choose to accept it, (oops, that's a different franchise) is to find out what adventure this came from.

Found on Facebook

Not a huge Facebook fan but sometimes there is something pretty cool to be had.  Enjoy the read, agents.

Merry Christmas

Under the Blue Light wishes all agents of The Shadow a very Merry Christmas.  Here's hoping Shadow Claus was very good to all of you since the alternative is, well, not very merry.

The 43rd answer is..

"Agent J reports: The Shadow's gun barrel, Vanish, The Shadow's hat brim (I like your update better than the original!), no suspenders on villain in white shirt, flashlight..."

So close!  The suspender on the villain getting the, uh, stuffing kicked outta him has been skewed a skosh.  Thanks for playing and to all the agents out there, have a happy holiday season.

The 43rd "What's the Difference" puzzle

Six, count'em, 6 differences between these two images.  Can you find them all before the bullet finds its mark?  The Shadow is counting on you!

Fill in the blanks #2

See if you can finish the quote and name the adventure.  Good luck.

"Tonight, your evil design was thwarted. T***** T******, the man you sought to kill, did not swallow that poisoned drink. I warned him, and he is safe. He stopped on the brink of death. He will be at the seance tonight. You will not be with him. Death will come to you, M***** S****! Death that you cannot escape."

(again, this is an early tale)

The blank is filled in

The Grove of Doom.  A great early tale that I've read a number of times.  Here's the whole quote...

"Your crimes have found you, Craig Ware Chittenden. Not again will your vile vengeance fall. You cannot call Koon Woon to do your evil bidding."

According to John Olsen, this is a top ten tale of The Shadow.  I cannot disagree. Check out his review here.

Shadowed Millions brought into the light

"Agent J reports: N8963, Waxmell, The Shadow's automatic, red shadowing on face, yellow shadowing is gone, cloak collar - that's all I can find!"

Okay, not bad.  I did try to make this one a bit more challenging than the last few.
The ones missed are:  Eye color is now green, skin tone (and hence the shadows) has been deepened and darkened, building has grown a few floors.  The yellow hilights have been changed but the whole costume has regained it's blue/black nature.

I may have been a bit too mean with this one.  Thanks for playing and I'll try and play a bit more fair with the next one.

What's the Difference with this Steranko cover?

There are 9 (nine) differences between these two covers.  Some are very apparent, others are a bit more subtle.  Good luck and have a great weekend, agents.

Fill in the Blanks

Let's try a new kinda game.  Fill in the blanks and name this adventure.

"Your crimes have found you, C**** W*** C*********. Not again will your vile vengeance fall. You cannot call K*** W*** to do your evil bidding."

Good luck, agents.

(hint... it's a classic from the early days)

This is new to me

A Kaluta color guide.  This really does capture the essence of The Shadow for me.  The fear he instills from the stygian night.

The Ghost Murders

"Agent J reports: 1939, the star in the W, Sport, shadowing on Shadow's face, the symbol to the left of The Shadow's hand, that's all I can find!"

Close, but the pip indicating eight o'clock on the clock face is the only thing that escaped your eagle eyes. Thanks for playing.

The weekend "What's The Difference" clew

Six (6) differences in this, the 41st puzzle.  Give it a go, agents.  Have a great weekend.

A little fun

As long as my newspaper carried Gasoline Alley I would cut the comics that referenced The Shadow.  I don't believe I have these so I thank Facebook for giving me a little smile this Thursday morning.

The quote is from...

The Living Shadow, the first novel in the incredible run of adventures of The Shadow.  Of course, it's the scene from the bridge with Harry Vincent.

Tuesday, December 4, 2018

Which novel did this come from?

This is easy.  From which novel did this conversation take place?  And who were the characters?

"What good is my life to any one? What will you do with it?"

"I shall improve it," replied the voice from the darkness. "I shall make it useful. But I shall risk it, too. Perhaps I shall lose it, for I have lost lives, just as I have saved them. This is my promise: life, with enjoyment, with danger, with excitement, and - with money. Life, above all, with honor. If I give it, I demand obedience. Absolute obedience. You may accept my terms, or you may refuse. I shall wait for you to choose."

And the answer is...

...given to us by Agent J.

"Agent J reports: 88, RAN, Maganize, The Shadow's eyes, cloak collar."
