Wizard of Crime

From 1943 this is the second novel to carry the title.  The rendering of the hand is good if the cover really isn't.  Hate the way the blood is painted and The Shadow as well.  The dollar signs are pretty goofy, as well. Oh, well, they can't all be classics.  The story I can't vouch for but I'll take John's word that it's a good one.  This was the last novel published as a twice monthly and in pulp size.  The magazine went to a digest format after this.  Of course, it returned to pulp size for the final four issues but by then the industry had changed and with it, The Shadow's fate.

The Black Master

You are correct, Agent T, the basics of the hero we come to know are present in this very early representation of The Shadow.  Here is the review of one of the great early cases of the original Dark Knight.  Read this novel if for no other reason than to read these lines "The secret of The Shadow," came the monotonous voice. "At last it is understood! The man of many faces - with no face of his own!"
