Saturday's random pulp cover: Dr. Yen Sin "The Mystery of the Dragon's Shadow": May - June, 1936
Yen Sin... Wu Fang? Who can tell the difference? Anyhow, Dr. Yen Sin lasted only three issues and suffered the fate of many a Fu Manchu wannabe. Still, a nicely rendered cover, if a little overstuffed with too many places to rest your eyes.

Saturday's random pulp cover: Clues Detective Stories "The Painted Nudes": April, 1939
Why, you ask, is this cover being featured? Well, other than the fact that I am a figurative artist so the title appeals to me, but the illustrator of this cover is none other than the man who (by no effort of his own) painted the first cover to The Shadow. Yep, Modest Stein did the Thrill Book art that was repurposed for the April 1931 issue of The Shadow Magazine featuring the first tale of The Dark Eagle, "The Living Shadow".
"His impressionistic-styled covers for The Shadow began appearing in 1943. It was during his run that the magazine became digest size. Stein was able to provide a very surrealistic, and modern, look for the new smaller-sized magazine, which was indicative to the ones appearing on paperback books at the time. Most of his covers didn't even depict The Shadow on them." The Shadow Wiki

Saturday's random pulp cover: The Phantom Detective "The Death Skull Murders": May, 1934
I confess that I know absolutely nothing about The Phantom Detective or it's run as a pulp magazine. Still, this cover is really great and well painted. Rudolph Belarski painted this wonderful piece.

Saturday's random pulp cover: The Mysterious Wu Fang "The Case of the Hidden Scourge": March, 1936
Ah, Shiwan...er, Wu Fang is menacing yet another fetching female while her rescuer appears to be just a tad too late. On a serious note, I really love the use of the red bounce light striking the background figures. Very nice.
