This lost episode of The Shadow was written by Sidney Slon and originally titled "Chasm of Death". The story starts with the Bennington family forced to find shelter when a rainstorm washes out their picnic. Predictably they find refuge in an old mill that happens to be the secret hideout of a group of counterfeiters. The father is shot, their young son is forced to work for the rats and the mother is apparently held hostage. The boy is caught up by the police who don't believe his harrowing tale and his mother's peril. Shrevvy (or Shreve, as Mr. Grams, Jr. spells it) and Margot help put Lamont, aka The Shadow, in touch with little Jimmy who tells Cranston where to go. Lamont is ambushed, The Shadow shows up, takes down the bad guys followed by Margot and the police. They find Lamont trussed up like a Christmas turkey in another room. Subsequently the trio receive checks for the reward but, in typical hero fashion, they turn them over to the mother to help, I assume, defray funeral costs and help raise Jimmy as a single mom.
