Saturday's random pulp cover: The Whisperer : "The Dead Who Talked"_October, 1936

The Whisperer had two runs as in his own magazine.  From October 1936 through December 1937 (first run) and that is where this issue is from.  Number 1 featuring "The Dead Who Talked".  A pretty nice cover from John Newton Howitt makes this a pretty great start.  I have no idea how the story plays out but all the pieces were there.  Could the magic strike again for Street & Smith?  It seems not to have been in the stars for Jim "Wildcat" Gordon.

 Meh.  At least this time he doesn't look like a teenager.  However, the composition is just boring.  It almost looks like it was decided on by committee.

Saturday's random pulp cover: The Skipper : "Black Leopard Princess"_January, 1937

 Pretty basic action cover.  I'm not sure I would pick up this magazine.  Why?  "Cap Fury" looks like an overgrown child to me.  The little nose and the tousled hair just looks teen aged to me.  Maybe it was intentional as a way to draw in kids who could see themselves a bit more in the character.  Me?  I was never a fan of Robin, I just wanted my hero to be, well, heroic.
