Both The Skipper (Cap Fury) and The Whisperer were characters created to capitalize on the success of The Shadow and Doc Savage. Each ran less than 15 issues as leads but they found a longer life as back ups in the very magazines they wanted to compete with. The Skipper ran for another 40 tales in the back of Doc Savage Magazine.
