RIP: Leonard Simon Nimoy
I cannot put into words what Mr Spock has meant to me over the years. And make no mistake, no one could have been Mr Spock other than Leonard Nimoy. I just need time to process this news and will, undoubtably, comment more fully later. For now I prefer to think that Spock, Bones & Scotty are hanging out with The Great Bird of the Galaxy and smiling down on us knowing how many lives they touched.

The Four Signets
I WANT THIS ISSUE!!!! As any follower knows I am a big fan of the ring covers and this is one of the very best!! The rendering is top notch and the patented Rozen colour composition is "at hand" in this illustration. Wow, this would have sent me over the edge if I had come across this in on the stands in 1935. Just as a note, this is the issue that came out two weeks before the last cover that was featured, "The Blue Sphinx". The color composition seemed to be very much in Mr. Rozen's mind at this point in his painting of the cover art. The story? According to this review, nothing special. But one should always find out for themselves...

The Blue Sphinx
The Shadow was in stride by the time this, the 70th printed adventure, was published. According to this review, this is a good tale... just not a great one. The cover, however, is a wonderful design both in composition and color. I would love to have this one in my collection (which is painfully lacking in original pulps... just two). I would've been excited to have run across this on the newsstands, dreaming of an exotic adventure akin to the Mummy films of Karloff.

"Blood & Judgment" part 4 page 16
Ah... the grand reveal. This changed the mythos for many new fans. I have to admit that I like the whole "Lamont Cranston as a corrupt man" concept and that Kent Allard made the Cranston name a positive one. Moreso than the Kent Allard/Lamont Cranston as a drug lord in the '94 film. (Yet I still enjoy the film very much).

The Black Master
Getting there. Our hero is starting to look more like the scourge of the criminal landscape that we have come to know and fear. I love this cover and I love this story. I read this back in the days of the paperback reissue from Pyramid. If for some reason this tale has not come to your attention check out this review to get an idea of what this adventure is all about. Again, early tale with The Master of Men still being molded into the dark avenger who would rule the pulps for nearly two decades.
By the way, here is the Steranko cover from the 70s.

Mother Goose Murders
I must concur with Agent T, fun cover but a horrible cover for The Shadow. I read this years ago but I don't remember it. This review may explain the reason why. Times, they were a-changin'.

Death Stalks the U.N.
Technically there is a shadow cast on this cover but COME ON!!!!! what were these idiots thinking!!!!!! Oh, yeah, Elliott wrote this so... I have to stop typing. This is like reliving the death of the magazine all over again. And I didn't live through it the first time. Read this if you want some idea about this "adventure" of The Shadow. Just don't have any high hopes.

The Crime Cult
The Shadow, set in stone. From this image there was no turning back. Iconic and defining. This was the twelfth novel in the series and we've finally got our Shadow. This story is also a wonderful tale although not as polished as the many classics to come. Still, the early stuff is my favorite stuff. If you haven't read this one check out this review to help make up your mind.

The Veiled Prophet
I always liked this cover, simply because it is so well painted. Maybe the tension and small figures in the foreground aren't pushed enough that's alright with me. Couldn't tell you about the story as I haven't gotten that far, but I'm sure this review could shed some light on the veil covering my ignorance.
