King of the Black Market
Yep. What to say. Aside from the masthead this says nothing about The Shadow. It's not even a good pulp cover. Sigh. At least this review seems to give us a thumbs up on the Gibson tale.
Have a great weekend, agents.

A gripe about Margo
This has to do with the radio Shadow. It's become much more apparent and annoying as I binge listen to the radio program. Has anyone wondered why The Shadow allows Margo Lane to often speak to him saying the name of Lamont with the criminal in the room? Was this just something the writers thought was funny? Over the years I thought it was just an occasional oversight but it happens over and over. I just want to reach through the speakers and throttle that little ditz.

The solution is...
...The Yellow Band. Kind of an obvious solution to the title. Bad but obvious.

The Golden Quest
If this were Batman I believe he would have a camo cloak and hat. I don't think I've ever warmed up to this cover because The Shadow is pretty much out for all the world to see. I haven't read this one so I don't know if this comes directly from the story but, one day, I will find out. Wanna synopsis of this story? Check out this review.

John Wick Chapter 2
I'll be upfront with this. I like the original better. That being said this is a wonderful exploration of the world that John Wick inhabits. It is a beautifully shot film and the hallmark violence has been choreographed fantastically. This film finishes the business started in the first and moves onto a deeper exploration of the apparent unseen world around us. I'll let that sit unexplained for those who have yet to see the film. Blood oaths, inviolable rules, betrayal and loyalty are all elements of this movie that resonate with me. As much of a fan of the action aspect, this series is more fascinating to me for the world that is being built.
I know this has little to do with The Shadow but there are times where I could see a cloak and slouch hat draped over Keanu as he spins and unerringly fires any number of guns taking out those that have chosen this lifestyle. I recommend both of these films and look forward to Chapter 3.

In lieu of a new film of The Shadow...

I've wanted to see this for a very long time
Two of my favorite characters. They should meet in the 1930's on each other's turf. I've written a couple of outlines and have played with some sort of comic treatment but time and daily life always get in the way. I think this has been in my head since the close release of The Shadow (1994) and The Phantom (1996) films. A fan of both but think The Phantom hit closer to the mark.

Sitting here listening to...
"Death House Rescue" starring Orson Welles. I can't tell you how many times I've listened to this and so many other episodes. These are what introduced me to The Shadow when they were rebroadcast on a long forgotten station in Butte, Montana. I'm guessing it's been nearly 45 years since I first heard the famous opening and I've been devoted ever since.
William Magner poses as The Shadow
This image was recently posted on Facebook and apparently doctored to show the hat and cloak. However I thought it would be fun to see if this pose showed up on any cover. Very likely this pic is from a session that produced one or both of these covers. I haven't looked to see if this more closely fits the bill on a Spider cover but I'm not interested in those anyhow.

DS does DS
Dave Stevens does Doc Savage & The Shadow.
I have always been a fan of Stevens' but this cover doesn't quite fit the bill for me. Perhaps if the background were darker it would come together. Still, what a great style Dave had.

Alex Ross
Really like this idea, The Shadow rising out of the spilt blood of an innocent to exact justice and vengeance for those that can't.

Stolen themes
9 years later, the imposter steals from the true Master of Men! Who did it better? I would say The Shadow did. The Spider cover is pure pulp and is well painted but "Murder Trail" puts doom to the villains right in our face. I love how it feels like the viewer has been caught red handed and retribution is about to come to town. I have to admit that I have never read any of The Spider's books so I'm only talking about the cover art.
