Saturday's random pulp cover: Doc Savage Magazine : "Murder Mirage"_January, 1936

Intriguing cover.  I love the color scheme.  The technique is beautiful.  What's left is whether the tale is any good.  I leave that to others to argue.  For me, the cover is wonderful.

Saturday's random pulp cover: The Black Mask : "One Hour"_April 1, 1924

I found this bit of fun information on

Up and Down These Mean Streets: The Official Website of Don Herron

"Perhaps the most interesting thing about this story is the editor’s notice that appears at the end of the story:

“The paintings from which the cover of any issue of The Black Mask is made will be sold to the highest bidder. Bids of less than $10.00 will, however, be rejected. All bids for covers prior to this time must be received by May 31st; and all bids for covers published hereafter must be received within 30 days after the date of issue (i.e., bids for May cover by June 1st, etc.). No printing of any kind appears on these original paintings; they make ideal pictures for your den or living room.” "

Saturday's random pulp cover: The Phantom Detective : "Murder's Agent"_Summer 1953

The final issue of the long running pulp.  Very uninspired cover to end this series on.  But that seems to happen to most of these titles, once they are of no use the effort just isn't put into the product.  A shame.

Saturday's random pulp cover: Doc Savage "Repel": October, 1937

Ah, Doc Savage at his scientific best.  The lack of gloves really makes me wonder how well that suit of his seals up, though.  Still, this cover foretells a smashing good adventure.

And so ends issue 3 of the rightfully derided The Shadow by Archie Comics.
