Saturday's random pulp cover: The Spider "The Corpse Broker": September, 1939

Yikes, what kind of corpses does this villain provide.  It looks to me like they are being sliced to pieces.  A very grisly cover indeed.

Saturday's random pulp cover: The Spider "Satan's Seven Swordsmen": October, 1941

Rafael De Soto gave us The Spider's version of George Rozen's "The Black Hush", the definitive Spider portrait cover.  Of course, this is subjective, but it don't get much more spidery than this.  The original appears to have sold for $10,755 in 2010.

Attention all Agents

For anyone who has not been tuning in to the latest from 1931 we are happy to announce that the inaugural ShadowCon will take place at the 2026 Pulpfest convention to celebrate pulpdom's most famous and influential hero.  Yep, The Shadow will celebrate 95 years of fighting the good fight and bringing thrills and chills to generations of fans.  Tim "Don't Mess With The" King is spearheading this event with some others carrying out his orders.  As more information becomes available this blog will pass it along.  In the meantime keep checking in with Pulpfest 2026 for more than just The Shadow.  DocCon XXII, ERBFest 2026 & FarmerCon XXI, stalwarts of the convention will be there as well.

As we approach the 100th anniversary of The Shadow Magazine we hope to keep this an annual event that draws from not only the pulp but the radio, film and comics versions of The Dark Eagle.

Saturday's random pulp cover: Detective Book Magazine "Drawn Conclusion": Summer, 1943

This cover is by that great workhorse of an artist, George Gross.  You may know him from his paperback covers for The Avenger and Nick Carter.  Fun cover by an artist who thrilled collectors for decades.
